About Us

J. DeVon Nolen, the TPMM Market Manager, has partnered since 1998 with community-based organizations by bringing powerful space activation to co-design program approaches that work best for our community. Program concepts are designed to raise awareness of the assets that already exist in North Minneapolis, and re-invest our local food economy to demonstrate what might happen if public funding was used more effectively to support the local food ecosystem. The recent closure of three retail food access point in North Minneapolis reinforces the need for a local, just food economy that can feed the citizens. This is a microcosm of a marco distribution problem that must be solved at the local level.

Our Founding Story

The Peoples’ Market MPLS (TPMM) founded in 2023 by J. DeVon Nolen, a life-longer Northsider, and an experienced individual who has hosted farmers markets in the City of Minneapolis for 14 years. J. DeVon Nolen is the Market Manager, resident, community organizer and service provider in North Minneapolis who lead the launch of the Produce Prescription (Fruit & Veggie Rx) project coined Northside Fresh Bucks. The project operates in an income-inclusive market where produce vendors accept various incentive programs to increase healthy food access for North Minneapolis residents, while supporting local farmers. TPMM will offer select fresh produce items at prices comparable to or below local supermarket prices.

Our vision

At The Peoples' Market MPLS, our vision is to increase access, availability, and affordability of fresh produce for the residents of the Northside Minneapolis. We aim to create vibrant market opportunities for local growers and entrepreneurs, establishing our market as a central hub for food-related activity and entrepreneurship on the Northside and beyond. By serving as a dedicated resource, we support and empower Northside growers and entrepreneurs, fostering a thriving, interconnected community, establishes The Peoples’ Market MPLS as a hub for food-related activity and entrepreneurship on the Northside; and serves as a resource for Northside growers and food entrepreneurs.

Our mission

Our organization's mission is to expand our reach to support local entrepreneurs and combat food insecurity through the development of a year-round indoor public market in North Minneapolis. Our project, Northside Fresh Bucks program, would use the grant money to fund the produce redemptions for families, which would remove the barrier of affordability for many families.

With your grant we could reach more families.
